Hotel group Scandic has opened the doors to its fifth hotel in Germany, Scandic München Macherei.

Hotel group Scandic has opened the doors to its fifth hotel in Germany, Scandic München Macherei.

Scandinavian chic meets Bavarian hospitality

The hotel, which has 234 rooms, is attractively located in Munich’s lively “Die Macherei” quarter in the Berg am Laim district. With its modern tile and brick facade and Nordic-inspired interior, the new hotel will offer global travellers unique hotel experiences.

- Die Macherei is a district for movers and shakers – a creative place where ideas are brought to life. Munich is also an important strategic location for us, so it’s exciting to be opening Scandic’s first hotel in the city. We’re continuing our growth strategy of expanding in Germany’s largest cities. Scandic München Macherei complements our German portfolio at a time when leisure and business travellers have returned in large numbers to our hotels, says Michel Schutzbach, Head of Europe at Scandic Hotels.

The hotel features airy living room-style lounges and spacious co-working areas. Conventional conference rooms have also been replaced by two private rooms that are ideal for shorter meetings. With its international yet Scandinavian-Bavarian feel, the hotel restaurant, Zieglerei, will be a modern meeting place for hotel guests and locals alike.

- I’m very much looking forward to bringing a new type of hotel experience to Munich. We’ve placed great emphasis on creating a sense of community here at Scandic München Macherei and in addition to chic and comfortable hotel rooms, we offer spacious lounge areas for relaxing, coworking, socializing and for private events and seasonal usage, a rooftop terrace with a stunning view of the Alps. Together with my outstanding team, we’re ready to welcome guests to enjoy truly great hotel experiences, says Carina Antic, General Manager at Scandic München Macherei.

The building will also be certified according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an international sustainability assessment system, meeting the requirements for LEED Gold. The purpose of the certification is to provide an independent environmental assessment of the building for guests, society and other stakeholders. The certification system assesses several important sustainability aspects, such as biodiversity, water conservation, energy and resource efficiency as well as the ability of indoor spaces to provide good daylight, air and sound environments.

As at all Scandic hotels, sustainability is a central part of Scandic München Macherei. The hotel is aimed to be ecolabeled according to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel’s tough new criteria when the ecolabel is introduced in Germany. Ecolabeled products, chemicals and 100 percent renewable electricity, the absence of single-use disposables, reduced water consumption, a climate-friendly menu and reduced food waste forms the basis for certification. The hotel is also located near mobility-sharing facilities, excellent public transportation options and e-charging stations located in the public underground garage.

Scandic München Macherei is Scandic’s fifth hotel in Germany and the ninth hotel that the company has opened in 2022. The hotel will strengthen Scandic’s presence on the German hotel market and following the opening, the company will operate a total of 1,645 rooms in the country.

388 Ventures and Life House Announce Opening of The Lenox Collection in the Berkshires

Photo Business Wire

Following extensive renovations, three-storied boutique properties located in downtown Lenox are reopening together as part of The Lenox Collection, a newly reimagined family of inns connected by their deep historical roots in the town and elevated contextual design. As part of the reopening is Ophelia's, a 66-seat restaurant and bar offering farm-to-table comfort food in an intimate indoor-outdoor setting, with locally sourced ingredients and curated cocktail list. New York-based firm 388 Ventures acquired the properties in 2021 and brought on an independent hotel management company, Life House, to lead design and branding, as well as oversee all hotel and F&B operations leveraging their tech-enabled management platform.

At the heart of the collection is the Whitlock - formally The Church Street Inn - built in 1771 by John Whitlock, a local farmer who turned his two-room farmhouse into an inn for stagecoach travellers. The property now takes cues from its natural surroundings with a rustic and warm feel reminiscent of its farmhouse origins. The Whitlock’s bar and restaurant, Ophelia’s, pays homage to the ingredients and labours of the hotel’s namesake. With locally-inspired farm-to-table cuisine with dishes featuring herbs & garnishes from local purveyors, Ophelia’s is already becoming a favourite among locals, guests, and downtown passers-by.

Located in the historic centre of town is The Constance - formally the Rookwood Inn - which was built in 1825 as The Williams Tavern. In the 1880s it was purchased by Frederick Constance Peters, a businessman from England, who turned the property into ancillary lodging for owners of Lenox’s famed Gilded Age estates. The inn has been completely reimagined with an extensive renovation to restore and enhance the elegant charm and whimsical character of the storied property with the benefit of modern guest amenities - its lounge is pictured above.

On the north side of town is The Dewey - formally the Birchwood Inn - which was originally built by Israel Dewey, a founding member of Lenox’s Continental Congress Committee when the town was incorporated in 1767. Over the years, the site has taken on many lives, owned by various influential figures in the Berkshires. Today, the newly-reappointed inn carries on its rich tradition of hospitality with elevated guest room interiors and stately common areas. Pictured right is the tea room.

The largest Pullman hotel in Europe reopens its doors........

The Pullman Paris Montparnasse is the largest Pullman hotel in Europe and has reopened on Paris’s Left Bank after a four-year makeover and top to bottom revitalization.

Pullman Hotels & Resorts is delighted to introduce the fresh new style of Pullman Paris Montparnasse, a 115-meter, an avant-garde skyscraper designed by Pierre Dufau in 1972, and a landmark of modern architecture in the heart of Paris. The flagship property sits within a new complex and is part of a larger project that will revitalize the Montparnasse station (which handles more than 60 million commuters a year, transform the Montparnasse Tower (by 2024) and reconnect to the Gaîté quarter and its theatres.

Innovative architecture, vibrant design and immersive art

Design duo Benjamin Clarens and Yann Martin, founders of CUT Architectures, were commissioned to reimagine Pullman Paris Montparnasse as a modern, innovation-oriented place: they have dreamed up an open-plan environment that is decidedly different from the straight, linear architecture of the Montparnasse neighbourhood. Their design vision has created concentric spaces, where areas intended to facilitate interaction alternate with places meant for relaxation. This approach is evident all around the hotel, from the lobby with its circular ceilings to the detail of the bedroom lights and the large structures in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom.

To offer travellers dynamic opportunities for escape and inspiration, Pullman Paris Montparnasse will launch the Artist’s Playground in 2022, one of the pillars of the Pullman brand: an immersive exploration of digital art. Alexandre Toledano, the founder of Visto, a company specializing in curating art within premium and luxury hotels, has assembled an engaging collection of work by contemporary international artists. The works are displayed on a series of screens throughout the hotel and reflect the neighbourhood, its architecture, its daylight and nocturnal rhythms.

In addition to these screens, the property will feature other digital creations, such as a 40-meter outdoor fresco and 3D printed sculptures. The Artist’s Playground and its installations constitute an astonishing art collection that will be continually refreshed.

Inspiring guestroom views

Spanning the eighth to the 32nd floors, the 957 bedrooms, suites and apartments of Pullman Paris Montparnasse offer unparalleled views of the capital. All throughout the property, the hotel offers inspiring spaces where guests can endlessly contemplate “La Ville-Lumière” (City of Lights), admiring the Panthéon, Sacré-Cœur, the Montparnasse Tower, Saint-Sulpice, or the Luxembourg Gardens. The bedrooms, accessible via long corridors with retro-futurist lighting, make full use of their generous dimensions. The classic categories have 22 sq m (240 sq ft) of living space; this increases to 29 sq m (312 sq ft) in Deluxe rooms and 30 sq m (325 sq ft) in Deluxe Executive rooms. Meanwhile, the Suites and apartments offers guests 60 sq m (645 sq ft) of space to make the most of their visit.

Dalata Hotel Group, the largest hotel operator in Ireland, growing rapidly in the UK has officially opened its first hotel in Bristol. Clayton Hotel Bristol City is ideally located in the centre of Bristol city and marks the Group’s 17th hotel in the United Kingdom.

Clayton Hotel Bristol City

Adding 80 jobs locally, the new 4-star hotel is close to Bristol’s commercial centre and within walking distance of the main shopping and leisure districts. The hotel boasts 255 air-conditioned bedrooms, a bar, restaurant, gym, and extensive conference facilities. The new hotel represents a £50 million investment, converting the former Edward Everard's Printing Works on Broad Street in Bristol’s city centre. The hotel’s main entrance is framed by the historical Art Nouveau façade, dating back to the 1900’s, which pays tribute to printing and literature greats Johannes Gutenberg and William Morris.

The decision to refurbish the existing building, rather than demolish and build anew is estimated to have saved 2,084 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These carbon savings are equivalent to the CO2 emitted in powering 264 homes in one year.

Bristol is the eighth-most visited town or city in the UK, by international visitors. It is an attractive destination for both business travellers and tourists and welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors in 20191. It has a vibrant and fast-growing economy with burgeoning engineering, aerospace, fintech, digital and creative sectors and was recently named the most innovative UK city outside of London2.

Commenting on the opening, Dermot Crowley, CEO of Dalata Hotel Group said:  “The opening of the Clayton Hotel Bristol City is a further demonstration of our Group’s ambition to grow our presence in the UK market. It is a fabulous property in one of the UK’s most popular destination cities. We are confident of the continued recovery in the hospitality sector and look forward to investing in other targeted UK locations throughout 2022 and beyond.

Our greatest asset continues to be our engaged people, in Ireland, the UK and Germany, and we are proud that we are generating significant new employment in the market. This will be the 17th hotel operated by Dalata in the UK, and our pipeline includes hotels in London, Brighton, Liverpool, Glasgow and Manchester. This is definitely a time to look forward.”

St. Regis Hotels and Resorts, part of Marriott International's portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, today announced the debut of The St. Regis Qingdao. The highly anticipated opening marks the first Marriott International luxury brand hotel in the northeastern Shandong region. Strategically located in the landmark Haitian Center in the heart of historic Qingdao, the hotel is set to delight the city’s luminaries and tastemakers with its elegant design, refined craftsmanship and time-honoured signature rituals.

"We are very excited to expand our luxury footprint to one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the region with the debut of the iconic St. Regis brand, bringing bespoke experiences curated for the most discerning travellers," said Henry Lee, President, Greater China, Marriott International. "The opening of The St. Regis Qingdao ushers in a new benchmark of luxury hospitality in this dynamic city and underscores our commitment to continuously grow in Eastern China."

Occupying the 58th to 78th floors of the 369-meter-tall Haitian Center, The St. Regis Qingdao is the tallest hotel in the region, enthralling guests with panoramic vistas of the Yellow Sea and picturesque coastal scenes. Within an hour’s drive from Qingdao Liuting International Airport, the hotel is adjacent to scenic Fushan Bay, the venue for the sailing competitions during the Beijing Olympics, and with views of iconic local landmarks such as Badaguan Cultural Architecture Centre and Qingdao International Sailing Centre.

Drawing inspiration from the brand’s rich heritage, the renowned Singapore based interior design firm, LTW Designworks, subtly infused local Qingdao influences with St. Regis’ avant-garde aesthetic. This includes a crystal chandelier inspired by a legendary dress of golden thorns that Caroline Astor, mother of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV and doyenne of New York high society in the Gilded Age, wore to one of her famed Midnight Suppers. A brilliantly-lit grand staircase offers the perfect venue for the celebrated St. Regis tradition of sabering a bottle of champagne to mark the transition from day to night. The backdrop of the grand staircase is a 74-meter-high atrium art wall that reflects the delicate traces left on the beach by the ebb and flow of the Yellow Sea.

Charlotte’s Newest Hotel is Set to Redefine Luxury Hospitality with Stunning Design, Exceptional Service and a Holistic Approach to Well-being

Charlotte’s Newest Hotel is Set to Redefine Luxury Hospitality with Stunning Design, Exceptional Service and a Holistic Approach to Well-being

JW Marriott, part of Marriott International, made its debut in North Carolina this week with the opening of JW Marriott Charlotte, located in the bustling Southern city’s dynamic Uptown neighbourhood. The 381-room luxury hotel, including 34 custom suites, offers discerning guests an urban retreat with inspired surroundings in which to relax and be present.

“With the opening of JW Marriott Charlotte, we will make sure every detail is taken care of, so our guests can focus on themselves during their stay,” said Bruce Rohr, Global Brand Leader, JW Marriott. “With thoughtful details throughout the property, holistic programming and an array of wellness offerings, guests will be encouraged to experience every moment to the fullest.”

Stunning Design

Inspired by Queen Charlotte, the city’s namesake, JW Marriott Charlotte draws inspiration from the sumptuous textiles of both her royal clothing and palaces, and marries them with the modern sensibility of the city. Ornate details, such as the flowing custom lobby chandelier that draws inspiration from the sumptuous patterns of the queen’s royal clothing, are set against grand-scale architecture, which gives the overall aesthetic of the hotel a clean and modern form.

One of the most defining features of JW Marriott Charlotte is its use of natural light to promote a minimal and relaxing environment while also showcasing regal craftsmanship, finishes and details throughout.

All guest rooms and most of the hotel’s 22,000 square feet of meeting space feature floor-to-ceiling windows, with city, stadium and vista views of greater Charlotte.

The 23-story building is a focal point of a new pedestrian-friendly public plaza and guests will have immediate access to diverse arts and culture, exciting sports and entertainment, convenient transportation, Bank of America Stadium and the renovated Charlotte Convention Center.
